Webster-Hale papers, 1814-1891.

Letters from Daniel Webster, lawyer, U.S. representative, and senator from Mass., to Nathan Hale, publisher and editor of the Boston Daily Advertiser, written from 1814-54. The bulk of the letters were written from Washington and pertain to pending legislation and Congressional business, matters relating to the newspaper, court cases, and personal financial matters. The collection also includes a draft of a Webster's tribute to his daughter Julia after her death (1848), two letters from Isaac Hill of N.H. to Webster in 1850 supporting his position on slavery, and a few misc. items written to Edward E. Hale, Nathan's son. There is also one letter each from Grace and Caroline LeRoy Webster, Webster's first and second wives, and a few items from his son, Fletcher.
